Texas Music - it’s whole ‘nother world (country).

That may not exactly be what the slogan is about (actually borrowed from the Texas Tourism Board’s 2002 Texas ad campaign), but it fits, sort of, when we start talking about Texas music.

Texas music, it seems, belongs in a place all to its own. Whether it’s twangy Honky Tonk country, hard-hitting, guitar riff rich rock tunes, solid and soulful blues, Conjunto or Tejano, or one of at least a half dozen other genres of quality music, Texas has it all. The Texas brand of music is a little different than just about every other kind of music in the world. So much so that Texas motorists can now get a personalized license plate that celebrates Texas music heritage and its many and varied contributions to the music industry.

Who could deny there are none others that could compare to the originality and uniqueness of such legendary performers like Willie Nelson, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Freddy Fender, Bob Wills, Tex Ritter, Blind Lemon Jefferson, Clarence ‘Gatemouth’ Browne, Albert King, Ernest Tubb, Buddy Holly, Waylon Jennings, Roy Orbison, Selena, Flaco Jimmenez, Little Joe, and ZZ Top? And that’s just the tip of the Texas music iceberg.

Don’t be surprised, in other words, that you may soon start seeing the image of one or more of Texas legendary musicians and performers on Texas license plates. It’s all part of a state license plate program designed to give credit where credit is due - the new “Enjoy Texas Music” plates now available at a courthouse near you.

Why is there a musician on the Enjoy Texas Music license plate?

Enjoy Texas Music license plates honor musicians who made Texas music what it is today, the pioneers who put Texas music on the map, so to speak, and who greatly and profoundly influenced young artists. We also seek to increase interest in Texas' musical history. Every two years, there will be a different pioneer honored in a manner similar to the United States Postal Service's Legends of American Music Series collection.

Who is the next musician going to be?
